  • Mission Trip 2008 - Day 3

I would like to start today's blog by sharing what I heard during our daily worship service right after dinner.  Each day's service would begin with a testimony/sharing from one of the residents of the SAFE Family Ministries.  Today's testimony was from a lady named Lisa.  She is a graduate...meaning she finished the 1 year program...who decided to stay longer and help out the ladies new to the program.  While her testimony of sobriety and her love for the Lord was, as usual, very moving; I couldn't help but notice her confidence and excitement as she shared.  I could tell that she is very much a champion of SAFE's ability to change a woman's life, and she will, at any given chance, go after someone who is lost with her incredible testimony. God is truly at work in this ministry.

    ANNEX HOME AND RAMP

Mike Chi's group is quite far along in their task. They have finished placing the additional framing and drywall, among other things.  Afterwards, he purchased additional wood so that the youth group would be able to fix the walk ramp to the second floor.

    RESTROOM

This is taking a lot longer than expected.  Last night the volunteer plumber came to install the new toilet connections.  Unfortunately, one of the connections started to leak.  Gene's dad was able to repair the leak, but not until the afternoon.  In the meantime, Gene's group (of which I'm a member) took the ENTIRE existing flooring out.  This was hard....it took the entire first half of the day.  In the afternoon, we were able to place one layer of plywood flooring.  After dinner and worship service, we were able to finish placing the second layer of plywood flooring.  As I type this, Gene (a crazy, workaholic, slave driver) is spraypainting the walls.  Tomorrow we'll be able to finish the restroom. We hope...

    CONCRETE SLAB

Initially, the idea was to have the youth handmix and pour/set the concrete.  However, the leaders decided at the last minute to ditch the idea and brought the concrete truck this morning instead.  Few adults set the gravel last night prepping for the arrival of the concrete.  Drew Brown, our youth director, who has an extensive experience in this field of work, finished the concrete work today.  It should dry up in the next day or so.

ELECTRIC FIXTURE WORK AND OTHER INTERIOR WORK

Joseph Hong (aka HongGuyver) is a madman! He has singlehandedly repaired/replaced the entire downstairs and most of upstairs fixtures with nicer/brighter lights.  Also a very knowledgeable handyman himself, he's been floating around extending help and support to others.  In the meantime, phileo ladies and others who helped Joseph yesterday, went ahead and started to renovate several rooms. AWESOME job!

    MEALS

So far, Ki Young Ham (our fearless deacon) and his group has been feeding us with eggs, sausage, pancakes, biscuits, fruit salad, cereal, to name few for breakfast.  For lunch, we've had deli sandwiches, hamburger and hotdogs.  For dinner, curry and teriyaki chicken. One word...WOW!  I dare say no mission team (anywhere!) has ever eaten this well. Unbelievable...

    CHILDREN

During morning, after breakfast, all elementary children and younger (my 3 year-old twin girls) are driven to Dayspring Baptist Church for Vacation Bible School (VBS).  They're all having a blast! In the afternoon, Sandra, my wife, and few others have been rotating taking care of them with a variety of crafts and activities.  We have 4 boys, 2 girls, and 2 preschoolers (my twins).  So far, they too are having lots of fun!

    ROOF WORK

    Still hot! Maybe tomorrow?

If any KAC Baptist Church members are reading, please continue to pray for safety, more opportunity to interact with the residents of SAFE, and most of all, that we would represent our Lord to someone who may not know the Lord yet.

Some of the team members are leaving tomorrow, but many are coming in the morning to switch off with them. Should be interesting...

It's midnight! Curfew was over hour and a half ago.  I better shut my computer down :)
